• President Hur Jin-soo states, “Johor is a vital global hub, and we aim to explore mutual development opportunities.”
SPC Group recently held discussions with a visiting delegation from Johor State, Malaysia, to explore opportunities for collaboration. On October 28, SPC Group President Hur Jin-soo met with Johor Chief Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi and his delegation at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong for a strategic meeting. On October 31, the Chief Minister and his delegation visited SPC Group’s flagship store, “Passion 5,” in Hannam-dong, Seoul, where they sampled products and held further discussions with President Hur.
The meeting was held to strengthen the cooperative framework ahead of the completion of SPC Group’s halal-certified bakery factory in Johor Bahru, the capital of Johor State, and to explore ways to expand collaboration.
In addition to the construction and operation of the halal bakery factory, SPC Group and Johor State agreed to cooperate on sourcing local ingredients in Malaysia, creating jobs, and pursuing investments in various areas.
SPC Group Chairman Hur Young-in has emphasized Southeast Asia as the third pillar of global growth alongside the U.S. and China. Chairman Hur personally led the expansion of Paris Baguette into Vietnam and Singapore, taking charge of on-site operations. He actively oversaw the opening of a Paris Baguette store at Jewel Changi, the mixed-use commercial complex at Singapore’s Changi Airport, demonstrating his commitment to expanding the group’s presence in the Southeast Asian market. The construction of the halal-certified bakery factory in Johor Bahru also reflects Chairman Hur’s vision and bold investment strategy to drive SPC Group’s entry into Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
SPC Group President Hur Jin-soo stated, “The soon-to-be-completed global halal-certified bakery factory is a flagship project envisioned by Chairman Hur Young-in, who has long emphasized the importance of the Southeast Asia and Middle East markets. We will work closely with Johor State to ensure its successful completion and continue exploring opportunities for mutual development with Johor beyond the halal factory.”
Johor Chief Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi remarked, “We are delighted to collaborate with Paris Baguette, a global brand with a strong presence in Southeast Asia and around the world. We will actively support SPC Group to ensure its successful operations in Malaysia.”
Johor State is home to Malaysia’s second-largest city, Johor Bahru, and is renowned as the country’s largest pineapple producer. Its geographical advantage of bordering Singapore has positioned it as Malaysia’s industrial hub. The ongoing Johor-Singapore Economic Zone initiative has further attracted numerous global companies, solidifying Johor’s status as a key economic center in Southeast Asia.
SPC Group’s global halal-certified bakery factory, which is under construction in Johor Bahru, represents an investment of approximately KRW 40 billion. The facility spans 12,900 square meters and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once operational, it will supply products to Southeast Asian countries where Paris Baguette operates, as well as to the Middle East, where the brand plans to expand in the future.
