• Mongolian government officials and entrepreneurs visit SPC Group to learn about the excellence of K-bakery
• K-food craze sweeps Ulaanbaatar, now nicknamed “Mongtan New City”
Amid the rapid rise in the popularity of K-food in Mongolia, government officials and local entrepreneurs from Mongolia visited SPC Group to learn about the excellence of K-bakery and its strategies for global expansion.
On November 1, SPC Group hosted Mongolian government officials and more than ten entrepreneurs from Ulaanbaatar at its flagship bakery, Passion 5, in Hannam-dong, Seoul. During their visit, attendees experienced bakery techniques firsthand and listened to presentations on SPC Group’s strategies for overseas success. The visiting entrepreneurs are members of the Mongolian Entrepreneurs Association.
During the session, SPC Group highlighted its use of dormant dough technology for consistent quality control, franchise management expertise, and localized strategies tailored to different countries—all of which have contributed to the company’s successful global expansion.
SPC Group is actively promoting K-bakery excellence worldwide, recently surpassing 600 global stores with the opening of its Bloor Street location in Toronto, Canada. The company also has a solid business base targeting Northeast Asia, including the completion of its Tianjin factory in China in 2019, which supports expansion efforts in Mongolia and the surrounding region.
Amid the growing popularity of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) among Mongolian youth, K-food’s prominence is on the rise in Ulaanbaatar. Korean convenience stores, large supermarkets, and restaurant franchises have rapidly expanded across the city. This trend has even led to the creation of a new term, “Mongtan New City,” a combination of Ulaanbaatar and Korea’s Dongtan New City. Collaboration between SPC Group and Mongolian entrepreneurs is expected to create significant synergy, leveraging SPC’s established business infrastructure in China.
Erdenebileg Yondon, Chairman of the Mongolian Entrepreneurs Association, stated, “K-food has been incredibly popular in Mongolia recently. Through collaboration with SPC Group, we aim to expand the successful strategies of K-bakery to Mongolian businesses.”
An SPC Group representative stated, “Paris Baguette is a leading K-bakery brand beloved in 11 countries worldwide. We are delighted that Paris Baguette’s success in global markets can serve as a model for Mongolian entrepreneurs preparing to enter international and franchise businesses.”
Meanwhile, prior to their visit to SPC Group, the Mongolian Entrepreneurs Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Franchise Association to collaborate on the entry of Korean franchises into the Mongolian market.
