Happy Bakery & Café

To create jobs for the disabled, SPC Group cooperates with the Purme Foundation,
Seoul Metropolitan City, and Soul Bakery to supply the facilities and interiors
Happy Bakery & Café where baristas with disabilities work
and support their operation.

At Happy Bakery & Café, twenty baristas with disabilities are nurturing
their happy dreams. Employees who say that they are happiest
when customers taste their coffee are also working hard to learn more about
coffee such as development new coffee menu ideas while participating
in the internal barista competition.

In addition, in order to create more jobs for the disabled, we established
Happy Turtle as a company, and obtained social enterprise certification
for it in May 2019.

SPC&SOUL Happy Bakery Class

SPC Group supplies training facilities to the vocational training programs
in confectionary and bread-making inside Soul Bakery, a workshop for the disabled,
and is supporting their operation, with a view to supporting vocational education
and employment in the same professions for the disabled.
Here at SPC&SOUL Happy Bakery Class, trainees with disabilities are nurturing
their dreams while taking regular special courses from SPC Culinary Academy
and vocational training in confectionery and baking at SOUL Bakery.

Happy Bakery & Café Guide

Happy Bakery & Café is a business that creates a workplace where friends
with developmental disabilities can work happily by using the bakery and cafe management
know-how of SPC Group. In cooperation with Seoul Metropolitan City, Purme Foundation,
and Soul Bakery, the first Purme Center opened in September 2012, and opening the 8th,
followed by Incheon Airport in 2018. Currently, twenty-six baristas with
developmental disabilities are making happy and delicious coffee.

1st store – Purme Center in Jongno
(opened on September 2012)

Located on the 1st floor of Purme Center in Singyo-dong, Jongno-gu,
Seoul, the 1st Happy Bakery & Café opened in September 2012.
Two baristas with intellectual disability are working.
The store is located near Gyeongbokgung Palace and
Cheong Wa Dae (‘the Blue House’), so it is a café that blends in with the quiet
and cozy atmosphere of the neighborhood.

  • Get off at Gyeongbokgung Station on Subway Line 3 and then, walk or take a bus.
  • When Traveling by Bus: Get out through Exit 3 and take the green branch-line bus and
    get off for “Hyoja-dong” (two stops).
  • When Traveling on Foot: Get out through Exit 2 and go straight (takes 10 minutes).

2nd store – Seoul Human Resource Development Center (opened on May 2013)

The 2nd store, located on the 1st floor of Dasom Building and
the 1st floor of the Seoul Human Resource Development Center
in Seocho-gu, Seoul, opened in May 2013.
Four baristas with intellectual disabilities are working.
Seoul metropolitan government officials who engage in various
training sessions there are treated with happy and delicious coffee
so that they can savor comfortable relaxation.

The 4th store – Seoul Eunpyeong Hospital in Eunpyeong-gu (opened in December 2013)

The 4th branch is located on the first floor of Seoul Eunpyeong Hospital in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. It opened in December 2013. One intellectually disabled barista works at the store that provides a cozy and comfy rest area for patients, caregivers, and employees who work at the hospital.

The 6th store – Purme Foundation Nexon Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital
(opened in May 2016)

The 6th Happy Bakery & Café, located on the 1st floor of Purume Foundation Nexon Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Mapo-gu, Seoul, opened in May 2016. Three baristas with intellectual disabilities are working. Located in a hospital specializing in rehabilitation for children with disabilities, it is a meaningful store that shows the hope of self-reliance for disabled children and their families who visit this place.

The 7th store – Seocho-gu Office
(opened on August 2016)

The 7th Happy Bakery & Café, located on the 1st floor of Seocho-gu Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, opened in August 2016. Eight baristas with intellectual disabilities work there, delivering delicious drinks and healthy bread to Seocho-gu residents who visit Seocho-gu Office.

The 8th store – Incheon Airport
(opened on August 2016)

The Happy Bakery & Café Sweet Air, located at Arrivals on the 1st floor of Incheon International Airport Terminal 2, was opened in December 2018. Three baristas with intellectual disabilities are welcoming visitors to Korea with bright smiles.
